Yay we finished, handed nin 5 mins before deadline and thats time management for you :)
Initialy I was a little underwhelmed seieing the film together but after the veiwing on Monday I felt a lot better, it works a lot better on the big screen with a good sound system. Now it's time to get ready for the public screenings and make some nice things for the show in uni.

Editing today and we got an edit together to show Sylvie Bringas. She was very helpfull and honest(which I appreciate). Sylvie told us what she thought was working and what wasn't and as a result the opposition shots of Leo and the little monster are going and the same with Leo and Rover. we're adding some more shots but these are easy done as we already have the material in After Effect comps. Today has cheered me up a bit because I was getting a bit jaded from seeing and churning out scenes and Sylvies advice has really helped freshen up the film. The time has gone down but its only the deasd wood that's been cast aside. Tommorow hand in 4pm can't wait.

scary little monster

He's only a little monster but Leo is a bit of a scaredy cat.
Main animation all done now and I've just got a couple of dancing monsters to make and colour, This weekend I should be compositing the close up shots and putting the rendered footage in a final edit. Should be okas the last rough cut had it timed more or less as we want it, so I can replace the Maya playblasts we used with final footage. It's going to be a bit tight but I think we should finish in time for next Friday.

Back to the film today after having this Sunday off being ill :(. Good news is Leo is finished and now its time to make the monsters move. Just to recap, the monsters move in the same way as Leo (as they are his imagination, so I copy the Leo animation into a separate element in Toonboom and using a model of the monster in another element I can create the monsters animation. A little tweaking here and there to account for the differences in shape (between Leo and Monster) and Roberts your Father’s brother.

New studio

Moved into T.O.M production studios (aka Dan's Garage). Thats me hiding behind the monitor busy animating little Leo on his adventures. Scene 1 is totaly animated now and waiting for render, a couple more loops to do for Leo and then its onto Rover; the nastiest dog in the world. Then a few monsters which are limited animation because they are Leos imagination and then final composite and edit, yay. Nearly there now (nearly)

boil test

A framefrom a boil test I've done for Leo. I tested the line in Toon boom and then coloured and shaded in Photoshop and then back into Toon boom for a colour boil test.
For production Toon boom's own colouring tools will do as I only need a flat colour. When composited in Maya I can get a nice strong shadow to get a cut out look(see below on the 27th dec post).

I'm quite happy with the loops I've been doing for Leo. I can do quick mock ups in Toon boom to get a feel of how the animation is working in a shot(I will post them when I figure out how to, promise).

Changed this pose after Dan Cresswell pointed out that he looks a bit sleepy and it doesn't fit the character. So I changed the profile of the mouth and made the eyes a bit sharper.

Next stop, animating the little bugger. I'm confident Leo s going to move ok. He's got a very basic shape and after doing a turnaround sheet I've noticed that on his side he looks horrible, so we aren't going to see him from the side but use a 3/4 angle instead, the way Fleicher did his walk cycles for Betty Boo.
Admitedly its a bit rough but I now know he walks and from there everything should follow, including runing, sneaking, dancing, etc... (phew that s a lot of work!)

The monsters in the film are going to be played by actors and will move as if they have people in them. I think its good to have them a bit larger as they dont have to do much movement, just enough to mimic Leo's actions.

A Little Lost

Premise
I like the feeling of being lost; I find it the best way to find out where I am. When I move to a new place I just wander off get lost and find my way about. Doing this takes me out of the safe area that I know. After doing this I gain more knowledge of the unknown parts of my mental map and my safe area gets bigger.

Outline
A child wanders and gets lost. How will they find his way home and what perils await them in the big wide world.

Treatment
Lost is a light narrative concept realised in a childlike/lo-fi drawing style (as seen in animation such as Maisy mouse or Warioware Touched), which is processed in a 3-D environment. The main character (which is a reflection of the viewer or placeholder character) is a child in a cat playsuit.
